Life at Como Secondary College

Teachers at Como Secondary College have the experience and training to deliver specialist programs, ensuring every student achieves their personal best whether it is in the academic, sporting or social aspects of school. They teach core curriculum subjects to exceptional standards and help students select the career pathway that is right for them. Many students choose courses to help them get into university. Other courses are suited to students who want to start further training or employment after school. The school accepts international students from Years 7 to 12.

The Enriched Mathematics, Information Technology and Science Program takes advantage of the school's close connection with Curtin University and the University of Western Australia. It offers students of above average ability in the mathematics, science and technology fields an exciting and challenging program of learning. The program builds a solid knowledge and skills base for further university studies.

Two very high-quality school specialist sporting programs are provided by the school’s hockey and golf academies. Conveniently located next to the Collier Park Golf Course, the College has Western Australia's only school-based golf academy. It caters for students who wish to play golf for recreation through to elite players at state or national level who aspire to a professional career. The Hockey Academy utilises the nearby Perth Hockey Stadium and the school’s specialised facilities to provide a diverse hockey experience with the major focus on skill development, physical conditioning and game strategy. Both programs are delivered by our own teachers who are nationally accredited coaches, with broad playing and coaching experience at club, state and national level. International tours are a feature of the hockey, golf and music programs.

Support for students

Como Secondary College has a strong student support program, which supports the mental and physical wellbeing of all students. The school has its own psychologist and nurse, as well as a Student Services Team dedicated to supporting the needs of students.

We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians of the lands and waters on which our students live and are educated throughout Western Australia.

We acknowledge and understand that Elders, parents, families and communities are the first educators of their children and we recognise and value the cultures and strengths that Aboriginal children bring to the classroom. Aboriginal people have a long tradition of teaching and learning through sharing their connections with country, community, language and culture, and through their oral histories, stories and lived experiences that are passed from generation to generation. We recognise and value the learning that Aboriginal children bring with them from their homes and communities into the classroom.
