Western Australian Government Schools support international students to achieve academic success, with a range of study pathways and an internationally recognised curriculum.

International students from the age of 6 years come to Western Australia from all over the world on a student visa (subclass 500) to study at our government schools, from Pre-Primary to Year 12. The student’s age will normally determine the year level they are placed into, and the minimum enrolment period for a student visa holder is 2 school terms (1 semester). Government schools are run by the Department of Education and follow the curriculum guidelines set by the Western Australian School Curriculum and Standards Authority

Students will receive English language support. Teaching is tailored to the individual student. If they are in the early stages of learning English language, students can attend Intensive English Centres which provide specialist support to help students learn English, before progressing to regular school.

Our teachers are highly skilled people who help students grow into confident and independent thinkers. They have experience working with international students, and make sure they have everything they need to succeed academically and personally.

Schools that offer the international education program are located across the Perth metropolitan area. Students choose subjects that will help them follow the education pathway that is right for them. This includes university, further training, or employment.

We acknowledge and respect the traditional custodians of the lands and waters on which our students live and are educated throughout Western Australia.

We acknowledge and understand that Elders, parents, families and communities are the first educators of their children and we recognise and value the cultures and strengths that Aboriginal children bring to the classroom. Aboriginal people have a long tradition of teaching and learning through sharing their connections with country, community, language and culture, and through their oral histories, stories and lived experiences that are passed from generation to generation. We recognise and value the learning that Aboriginal children bring with them from their homes and communities into the classroom.
